How do I add friends on YM?

please help give good details i need help i want new account but keep the same list and add them to my new list

Every time I add them it keeps on saying "There was an error in the server while trying to add a contact. Please try again," I tried reinstalling it. But still has the same problem.. Then, when they add me they don't appear in the list or group...

I have a lot of friends on Yahoo Messenger, but don't necessarily want to contact them on email. It's annoying to have them automatically added to Yahoo email address book and if you take them off the email address book they get deleted from your Yahoo...
