How do I import pictures from my phone?

I have a samsung intensity and i hooked the usb cord to the computer and a window popped up saying import pictures. so i clicked on it but then it said "no new pictures where found on this device". How can i import the pictures?

Am able to to see the phone memory, but am unable to move the pictures into the laptop.

It's cumbersome to download photos from my iPhone into Lightroom.  First, I have to import them into Lightroom, and then open up separate software, Image Capture, to delete them in bulk, since neither Lightroom nor the iPhone itself have this capability...
