How do you add friends to your friends list in messenger?

I want to add a contact in my address book, over to my friends list, in my messenger. I already tried the "Add Feature" but that does'nt work. It only provides for adding people that are not in my messenger list already

Is there a way to search through the profiles of other Yahoo messenger users and find new friends I don't know and add them to my friends list? (without the name or email just brand new random people with similar interests or whatever)

I can't figure out how to catagorize my contacts in my yahoo messenger to related catagories as Family or Friends

whenever I try it takes out the @yahoo. part and if i put it without anything there it shows up as @hotmail.com even though their e-mail is _________@yahoo.com but they use windows messenger.
