Is there a way to connect home theater speakers to T.V?

I own a blu-ray home theater system and an HDTV but i don't watch that many movies. However, i do want to watch my favorite TV shows and hear them in surround sound in my home theater speakers but i don't know to set up the speakers with the TV. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!
