What is a good cheap gps system to use for geocaching?

I'm looking to do geocaching but GPS systems seem to be no less then $100.

If I understand this correct the new Nexus 7 tablet has GPS and the new google maps allows you to download the city maps. Does this mean you can use GPS on this tablet without a data connection? So this will work as a GPS system?

I want something the kids can use when we are out geocaching that is both durable and kid friendly.

I want one that is accurate, has a color screen, can store pocket queries information for paperless geocaching, and has an averaging feature to help in placing geocaches.
