What is considered to be a safe level of carbon monoxide?

i bought a new digital carbon monoxide detector...it has readings up to 400( not sure what the units of measurement are) it records a week's worth of c0 levels...i had it for a couple of days and decided to check it and it said the highest reading of...

I have a detector in my bedroom that reads 17. I assume that's 17 ppm. Is that an acceptable level? I checked it a week ago and it was at 17. After resetting it, it still reads 17 so I think there is a consistent amount of carbon monoxide in the room...
