Why does error 999 keep coming when I try to enter chat rooms?

suddenly, I began receiving error messages when trying to enter any chat room. Yahoo says they do not have live tech assistance for messenger. I tried uninstalling and then re-installing messenger to no avail. Does anyone have a helpful comment?

I get error 999 when I try to enter yahoo messenger chatrooms, but every other service seems to work ok.
