Why doesn't my instant messenger work?

when i click the envolope icon to open mail it doesnt work when i click a link sent to me in an instant message the link dont work.i have to copy and paste the address in my browser i like to open my mail from messenger its quicker to access can anyone...

So i downloaded instant messenger for my macbook and i doesnt work. I cant send messages to nobody. how do i fix that. And also how do i set up my mail on my macbook

but now it does not show up like doesnt pop up DID I HAVE TO DELETE MY OLD SCREEN NAME? AND HOW WOULD I DO THAT but it did work for sure because i am on hear and i have a email address so how do i get instant messenger the NEW SCREEN NAME I MADE UP
