How can I use my own picture instead of the avatar??

How do I use my avatar instead of the picture I use now? Can you add beard to all faces or does it only come with some of the faces? Thank you!

I just really want to know how you can pick a picture for yourself on the little profile cards in YM! particularly if you've already also got an avatar, but want this picture in place of it.
