How do you convert a windows movie maker file to a regular video file?

Ok, so every time I upload some videos to my computer I try to then upload them on Windows movie maker but every time I try to it says something like "This file isn't the right video format". How can I convert it?

i have a 3gp video of a slideshow of pictures from which i want to extract individual pictures. i was advised to use windows movie maker, but that doesn't play 3gp files. how do i change the format?

Ok so i have a fujifilm camera and i can upload the pictures but not the videos is there anyway where i could convert them to make them work.
