How do you fax a simple document?

How do I get a fax number?Could I get any bank fax number online to fax to them? Could I fax them through the internet?

As of now I have to print the file, then place the print out on the fax scanner to be scanned again, then fax. How can I just open a document in my PC and choose to fax directly from there, without having to print?
