How long does it take to get a car title from DMV in tx?

I have to get a salvage title for my car and I sent the paperwork away a few weeks ago and am waiting for it to come back, but I have heard nothing yet. Does anyone know how long it takes until you receive the salvage title and registration?

Also, what happens after the initial time period? Is it possible to get it registered without the insurance if the car is not running at the time?
