How to convert movies from VCD discs to DVD discs?

i have converted and burnt movies onto blank dvd discs, Maxell and Sony brand........but how long will the movies last on it for,,,,,,,,as i know movies on vhs tapes deterioate after several years, is it the same for dvd movies???
