Installed new head unit and now my subs cut off when I turn up the volume. ?

I'm running an Alpine CDE-122 to a Kenwood 500w RMS @ 2ohm amp with two Kicker L5 2ohm DVC subs in a sealed box. 8 gauge power and ground cables and 14 gauge speaker wire. This setup was fine when I was using my Pioneer head unit but the Alpine seems to get so much louder. I followed Crutchfield's wiring diagrams for the subs and double checked it to make sure I wasn't forcing a 1 ohm load on the amp. Also the alternator is original and the battery is sorta old. This is all setup on a 1994 Ford...
