Will i be able to claim housing benefits?

i'm in the UK and claim dla and want to move into my own flat anytime soon but will I get housing benefits or will I have to pay for the rent. I know I will have to pay bills and such but i'll easily make plans for that.

I signed on for job seekers at the beginning of july but never got around to applying for housing benefits. Is it now too late to claim housing benefits from the beginning of july onwards?
