Are Blu-Ray discs and the players region free?

Hi i have a soniq bluray player model QPB300b i have the unlocking code and i can get it to play region 1 or 2 dvds but im not sure which button to push to get it to play region A blu rays Can anyone help? Thanks!!!

Can blu-ray players play movies off a data disc? BQ: They can all play usual DVDs ofcourse, right? It will be smart enough to upconvert to 1080i not p then down-convert it?
