How can I remove mail alert?

The list appears in Preferences>Alerts & Sounds, but there's no add/remove facility. The alert is redundant and it doesn't go away when I check mail without clicking on the alert icon in the system tray.

In yahoo mail i am sending a forwarding a mail and i am seeing a green color arrow mark on the left side of mail ...can i remove that arrow .is it possible to remove.

I would like to make sure ALL members get the special notices that are sent out sometimes. However, some set their preference to "no mail" although it's against OUR groups rules. How can I remove "no mail" as an option?
