Is it possible to watch HDTV through a Blu Ray player?

I desire to buy a LG 3D HDTV and the Blu-ray player at once but due to the limited cash found on me, I’m wondering if I can watch 3D effect with using the a 3D BLU-ray player? Help please.

Let it be known that I am not a videophile. In fact, I don't own my own television monitor, and when I do watch TV, it is almost always in standard definiton, half the time on a CRT SDTV because of staying at hotels and moving around the past three years...
