What colors should i use for a project of architecture?

The project involves choosing 3 letters and making 3 compositions, 2 of them must be in color, in stating that I don't mean bright and overly decorated, something simple to still keep it at L, p and y (my chosen letters) and not colored all over, so...

like i said this is for an art project (a painting) and i can only use 3 colors. i have red and black but i need a color to match with red and black so please answer!

Ok for example, talking in front of a huge crowd at a graduating ceremony. I just want to know if blue and red are good for that kind of situation or are there more colors that can help me with this project.
